Gemstone Sinks

Today we are going to turn things over to Alan Kennemer, Surfacing Product Specialist, to give you an overview of our Gemstone sink line.

Atlantic Plywood became the distributor of Gemstone sinks in early 2013 after exploring many other options. We were impressed with the quality, service, and variety of shapes and sizes available. You are probably familiar with solid surface sinks, so I would like to give you a general overview on the benefits of choosing Gemstone sinks to compliment your Avonite Solid Surfaces.

When you look at other manufacturers of solid surface sinks, they have your standard square and round vanity and kitchen sinks. Gemstone stocks over 75 different sinks in various shapes and depths.

Many of their specialty sinks are not available from any other manufacturers like their baby bath sink that is contoured to help support your baby while bathing – ideal for hospital applications.

Many of your projects require specially designed sinks that would normally need to be custom made by a fabricator. Gemstone can take your specifications for these sinks, produce drawings and a mold, then fabricate in their manufacturing plant at a much lower cost than a custom fabricator.

Gemstone sinks are made of 20.5% post consumer resins that may contribute to LEED points. They also use 100% recycled packaging materials!

I would like to address some common questions I get about Gemstone sinks:

Q: Does Gemstone offer ADA Compliant sinks?

A: Yes: they offer a variety of both lavatory bowls and kitchen sinks.

Q: We have a demand for lavatory bowls that do not have an overflow. Is this an option?

A: Yes. Since Gemstone manufacturers their own sinks, you can get most lavatory bowls with or with or without an overflow.

Q: Many of the solid surface sinks we have used have a separate overflow tube that connects to the overflow fitting on the sink and then is piped into the drain pipe. These overflow tubes are always missing or get lost at the job site. How does Gemstone deal with this issue?

A: Gemstone does not use a loose overflow tube. Gemstone sinks have an integrated overflow built into the sink unit. They will never get lost! Also, the inside of the integrated overflow is a smooth channel which prevents blockage and build up of bacteria.

Q: What is the minimum order qty for a custom designed sink?

A: Gemstone will work with you from design to manufacturing your custom sink with a minimum order quantity of 100 sinks.

Q: What is the standard lead time for Gemstone sinks?

A: Because Gemstone sinks are made in the USA, you will never have to worry about delays because your sinks are stuck at the border, or in the port. Gemstone can make and ship your made-to-order sinks quicker than anyone other manufacturer, saving time and money.

Q: Are Gemstone sinks LEED certified?

A: Yes. Credits MR 4.1/4.2 Recycled Content and MR 6 Rapidly Renewable Material

Q: Are custom color sinks available?

A: Gemstone will attempt to color match any manufacturer’s colors. Solid colors are easier to match than those with larger particulates, as the large particulates may sink to the bottom and skew when poured in the mold. Some colors with small particulates may be available. Gemstone will advise if they do not recommend a particular color. We do advise staying away from dark colors as they may show scratches.

Q: Can Gemstone sinks be repaired if there are scratches, cracks, or stains?

A: Yes, Gemstone sinks can easily be repaired usually in the same manner as your solid surface tops.
